The Common Black Garden Ant (Lasius Niger)

How do you know if you have an ant problem?

The worker ants are the ones most likely to be seen. Both males and females are produced at certain times of the year. The so-called flying ants have wings and are common on in the summer. The workers, about 2-5mm in length, are black/brown in colour. The females and males are larger in body size and are about 6.5 – 10.00 mm for the female and 3.5 – 4.5 mm for the male. Garden ants generally nest outdoors in sandy soils but travel widely in search of food. They become a pest when they enter homes in search of food; they are particularly attracted to sweet substances. Garden ants become a nuisance because of their foraging habits. They walk across unpleasant and dirty areas during their search for food. They are therefore thought of as unacceptable in our homes.

How does Extreme Pest Control actually control an ant infestation?

Our treatment programme consists of two visits. Our technician will initially talk through the problems you are experiencing and explain what our initial treatment entails. He will then carry out a thorough inspection of your premises prior to any treatment and assess the level and extent of the infestation.

Black Garden Ants are normally controlled using residual insecticides namely sprays and dusts. In domestic properties we would normally treat the kitchen and garden areas where the ants may have originally entered the premises.

Problems caused by Ants

Ants are common everywhere and you are as likely to find them in London, Essex, and Hertfordshire. Ants become pests once they come into homes searching for food.  They are most commonly attracted to sweet, high sugar foods. When garden ants are foraging for food they can become a real nuisance, often walking over unpleasant and dirty surfaces while they are searching for food sources. Most people are not willing to accept this in their homes and want to get rid of this pest.

Identify an Ant problem

Ants are easily recognisable although most people are not aware that it is only the worker ants they usually see. Male and female ants are produced at particular times of the year. Winged ants, often called flying ants, are commonly seen during the summer. Worker ants are usually 2 to 5mm long and are a black or brown colour. Female and male ants are generally larger in body size than the worker ants with the females around 6.5 to 10mm and the male ants 3.5 to 4.5 mm. You can usually find the nests for garden ants outdoors in sandy soils, often under loose paving slabs.

Pest control treatment for Ants - Call 0203 600 0351

As with most of our pest control treatments, we usually do two visits as a follow up visit allows us to make sure any actions we take are successful. Our fully trained pest control technician starts by talking to you about the problems you are having before assessing the situation.  Please be aware that the pest controller will often need to inspect other areas and not just the visible source.

Residual insecticides, usually sprays and dusts are the normal treatment for Black Garden Ants. In houses we normally need to treat the kitchen and the garden areas where the ants may have originally found their way in.

As with all our treatments, the pest control technician will leave a report with you with details of any treatments and recommendations.  If a follow up visit is likely to be needed, our technician will arrange a suitable date and time with you. Generally this will be about a week or two later and sometimes a second treatment is required.
We are a leading pest control company working in and around the Hertfordshire area, using the latest techniques to ensure your pest problems are completely eradicated.
